How much is a cannabis license in Michigan?

The answer

Fees range from $1,000 to $24,000 depending on license type. A Class A grower is $1,200, a Class B grower $6,000, a Class C grower or processor $24,000, an adult-use retailer $15,000, a microbusiness $8,300, and a Class A microbusiness $18,600, per the CRA fee schedule.

Fee is not the barrier

None of these figures is what actually stops most applicants. The fee is a fixed administrative cost payable to the CRA on approval. The real capital requirement sits in the real estate — acquisition or lease, build-out to code, security systems and working capital — which typically runs ten to fifty times the license fee itself.

Plant limits scale with the grower fee

Grower fees track plant count: 100 plants for a Class A grower, 500 for Class B, 2,000 for Class C, with an Excess Grower license stacking additional 2,000-plant blocks on top of a Class C. Processor, retailer, secure transporter and safety compliance facility licenses carry flat fees because they are not plant-count-based.
