Microbusiness

The microbusiness license is Michigan's vertically-integrated small-operator category: a licensee can grow (up to a statutory plant limit), process, and retail from a single facility without needing separate grower, processor, and retailer licenses, but it cannot sell to other licensees at wholesale the way a standalone grower or processor can — sales are direct to consumer only.

For real estate purposes, a microbusiness building has to accommodate cultivation, processing, and retail functions under one roof, which typically means a smaller-footprint but higher-complexity build-out than a single-use retailer storefront — separated cultivation and processing areas with appropriate security and access controls, plus a compliant customer-facing retail area, often within a single building envelope.

Because microbusinesses are licensed per-municipality opt-in the same as retailers and growers, site selection still starts with confirming the municipality has opted in and allows the microbusiness class specifically — some municipalities that allow retailers or growers exclude microbusinesses from their ordinance.
